The Illusion of Freedom

(a thought)

Hello, lovely readers! Was thinking of something today, so just wanted to share. So as we were kids, we always wanted to grow older… so that I can go where ever I wanted, have my own money and do everything according to my own choices. So basically I wanted to be absolutely free for my own choices.

But as I am growing up, and maybe thinking a little more deeply towards life, I am realizing that- in actual we tend to have “NO-FREEWILL”. So we are kid of right- when we say that true freedom is just an illusion.

(Huh! Too much philosophy…. ! Let me explain you)

We all have our AM rituals. Some dive headfirst into a cup of coffee, while others gracefully sip tea. But ever wonder if you were truly making a choice? Or maybe, being grown up in an Indian family, makes you drink that tea (because your mom made tea every morning) orrr maybe, that jingle from the coffee commercial is hypnotizing you every morning. Mmm, fresh coffee… (See now if you think about this really deeply! You find the reason of the choice)

do let me know in the comments!

Choosing a place for vacation- Oh, the Maldives looks so good right now, especially when half your Insta-feed is basking in its sunny glow. But would the Maldives even be on your radar if not for those perfectly filtered beach pics? Hmm, makes you wonder if we’re choosing our next vacation spot or if it’s being chosen for us!

And now a days there is a new trend! Searching for ‘the best instagrammable cafe nearby’ … even for the smallest dates! (In the hearts we all know that the reason of going there is just pretty pictures and not the food) And very frankly speaking the food in really bad most of the time, but still we prefer going because that place is trending.

Quick Poll! What’s a place you’ve visited solely because of social media? Drop your comments below!

Finished a series and Netflix promptly suggests another? And voila, there goes your weekend! Free choice or are you just dancing to the algorithm’s tune? Perhaps you’re binge-watching destiny, that was written in the code or selected for you by the algorithm!

Don’t watch Netflix! You might be reading a lot of books in that case.

Ever purchased books because they were already ‘New York times best seller’, because you don’t want to dwell in the FOMO of a book which is already read by so many people. So these book choices are rarely about our personal literature preferences, and more about which is the famous book now-a-days. (Isn’t it?)

Ever bought a neon green hat because it was on sale, even though you’ve never worn hats, let alone a neon one? That’s the magic of marketing, making you believe you were meant to be the proud owner of bizarre hats! Or those Tote bags, which none of us liked earlier but purchased because carrying one became the new trend (but its funny, as now we have started liking those… or is it just me?).

Ever wonder if the cozy ambiance and the soft romantic ballads at your favorite cafe played a part in sparking that ‘unexpected’ romance? Maybe, just maybe, you weren’t falling for the person as much as the carefully curated environment? Thanks, coffee shop playlist!

From politics to fashion, our beliefs are often molded by family, friends, books, and media. Are they truly our beliefs or just borrowed ones? The next time you debate pineapple on pizza, remember: maybe that belief isn’t truly yours, but from that one friend who REALLY hates pineapples!

In the grand tapestry of life, it’s amusing to ponder how many of our ‘choices’ are genuinely ours. While it’s tempting to believe we’re the masters of our fate, sometimes it’s fun to admit that maybe, just maybe, there are some unseen puppet strings at play!

Got any amusing “choice” stories where you were sure it was your decision but maybe it wasn’t? Share below and let’s laugh at life’s quirky puppet show together!

Don’t forget to clap and follow if you like my way of expressing these random thoughts (It would mean the world to me☺️).
